Our Role in the Circular Economy

In March 2020, the European Commission adopted the new Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP)*, a key part of the European Green Deal. This transition will reduce pressure on natural resources, drive sustainable growth and jobs, and is essential for achieving climate neutrality by 2050 and halting biodiversity loss.

1 of the 4 most important measures that government bodies are proposing to achieve a circular economy is the reuse and repair of products and machines. This is exactly what we do at HOS BV and we take pride in it. HOS BV is Europe’s biggest supplier of used refrigeration equipment with over 85.000 m² of inventory, based in Hillegom, The Netherlands. For over 20 years, we have been delivering used refrigeration equipment to our customers worldwide, always fully tested, 100% functional, and fully refurbished, with the option of fresh spray painting if desired. We often get asked to de-install obsolete refrigeration equipment, but we also get it offered by other companies that just de-install machines for a living. At HOS BV, we give all of this equipment a proper second life, as long as it still meets quality standards.

Sustainable De-installation and Reuse
When we perform these de-installations, we always do so within the context of safety and environmental rules and legislation, which can vary by region and country. The machines then get transported to 1 of our 4 storage locations in The Netherlands. A team of workers then put these machines online on our website www.hosbv.com. Machines get photographed, technical documents and certificates get scanned, and then put on our website with the full specifications, pictures, and, where available, a video of the machine in running condition.

Collaborating for a Climate-Neutral Future
A growing number of suppliers of refrigeration equipment and refrigeration installations are working together with HOS BV to ensure that obsolete equipment ends up with HOS BV to give it a proper second life. Every machine that gets a proper second life eliminates unnecessary carbon footprint and emissions. This way HOS BV helps installers and companies to become more climate-neutral as well.

Trade-in and Circular Benefits for Customers
In addition to the above, when selling refrigeration equipment to new and existing customers, we also aim to trade in their old equipment and give it a second life. For parties that have obsolete machines, HOS BV is a good company to work with, because in many cases, there is still a monetary value that we can reimburse to this party. For customers who buy used refrigeration equipment, there is the distinct benefit of it being the most cost-effective, most sustainable, and circular solution with the shortest possible delivery time, regardless of whether the customer needs a single machine or a complete refrigeration installation.
